MEET OUR TEAM
I am 65 years old and I have lived all my married life in Embo. I have 9 children, although only 6 remain; two passed away in child birth and another from TB. I’ve spent my life at home bringing them up. Now they are all grown. I love them all but it is hard. They are all very different; some work, others don’t and often there is tension between them. I was at home when I learned about Hooked in Africa and I was very interested in learning. I really enjoy working with my hands to create beautiful products, meeting different people and making new friends. I also enjoy learning English.
I was born in Scotland and began travelling with YWAM when I did my Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Australia. God called me to come and work at YWAM Durban in 2009. I now call Durban home along with my husband, Benjamin and our two beautiful children, Eilidh Jane and Ethan. I have always had a heart for working with women, helping them understand their value in God and making space for God to restore their dignity. I love teaching and writing and am exploring how to bring these two passions together. I began Hooked in Africa in 2013 when I had the idea to bring women together around a skill. I enjoy the joy that comes from creating, the sense of purpose that it brings and the friendships that are made.
I am 56 years old. I did not have the opportunity to go to school, instead I helped my mother in the garden. When I was 15 years old I began selling chips, sweets and other snacks in the community. Last year, I had to give it up as my body was exhausted. I came to live in Embo with my husband in 1990 and have lived here ever since. In 2005 my husband had a stroke and I took care of him until he passed away 2 years later. That same year my only son also passed. Since then I have been on my own. I was selling at the school when one of the teachers asked if I would like to learn to crochet. One of the things I enjoy most about Hooked in Africa is the community and the friendships I have made.
My name is Amo, I'm from Estcourt Wembezi, South Africa. I completed my DTS at YWAM Durban in December 2019. After DTS I came on staff with YWAM Durban. I joined the Hooked in Africa team and have quickly caught onto crocheting! I love dancing and hope one day I'll have my own dance crew!
I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. I came to Durban in 2016, to do my Discipleship Training School (DTS) with YWAM Durban and felt God was calling me here. My husband, Luke, and I call Durban home! My heart is to see people know the Father heart of God and understand their original design. My passion is to see this happen through creative expressions. My personal creative expressions are photography and music. I run the media for the Hooked in Africa project and am learning how to crochet as I watch the ladies create their beautiful products.
